Wednesday Scrambles & Duathlons, Thursday Tours & Paddles
In addition to sponsored races, St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers hosts a variety of other paddling events including race trainings, time trials, paddling safety trainings and educating paddlers about the St. Lawrence Valley waterways.
Wednesday Scrambles (Time Trials) -
from ice-out to ice-in on Wednesday evenings, paddlers gather for a four to six mile group paddle. All are welcome to join in. Boats, paddles and life jackets may be available with prior notice. Paddlers meet for early and late season paddles on the Little River at the Park Street (CR 27) boat launch in Canton, NY. In the summer, Scrambles move to the Grasse River at the DEC boat launch on Route 68, about three miles west of Canton. Meeting times vary from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the season based on daylight. Check the SLVP Facebook page for meeting times and location. Scrambles are often followed by a picnic or group dinner at a local restaurant.
Wednesday Duathlons -
held on the third Wednesday of May, June, July, August and September on the Little River in Canton, NY adjacent to the campus of St. Lawrence University. The duathlon consists of a 1.25 mile run, a 1.25 mile paddle and is completed by another 1.25 mile run. The start and finish line is located near the Little River Boat Launch at the Park Street (CR 27) Bridge. Teams consisting of paddlers and runners, or solo participants are welcome. Race registration is free and opens at 5:30 p.m. The duathlons begin at 6:30 p.m.
On Thursday evenings during the late spring, summer and early fall SLVP hosts group tours to explore a variety of nearby paddling locations on the Oswegatchie, Grasse, and Raquette Rivers as well as local lakes and reservoirs. Our launch sites vary each week, but are within a relatively short drive from the Canton-Potsdam area. Meetup times also vary in consideration of drive time and daylight. Check our Facebook page for the latest information.
