Canceled: The 2021 Little River Ramble race scheduled for April 18th has been canceled. We hope to see you at other SLVP sponsored races and events during the paddling season. We will be back in 2022!
Paddling Film Festival: We are planning to once again host the 2021 Paddling Film Festival World Tour this September, as long as it is safe to do so. Stay tuned for further information.
Postponed: The 2021 Adirondack Paddling Symposium scheduled for June at Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company in Old Forge, New York has been postponed until June of 2022. As the pandemic continues, the ramifications of trying to hold this event are too profound. The events mission statement speaks of building community, as well as building paddling skills. This would be greatly hampered because of social distancing throughout the event. Meals, meetings, social gatherings and presentations would all be affected in an attempt to keep students and staff safe.
Teaching skills such as rescues, bracing and rolling require close proximity between student and coach. It would be very challenging to give the level of service the students expect, while trying to keep them and the coaches distanced. Therefore, the event will be postponed until June of 2022.
St Lawrence Valley Paddlers (SLVP) is a paddling club based in Canton NY. Founded in 1990, the club has been in existence for 30 years. The goal of the club is to promote sport and fitness through recreational and competitive paddling.
The club sponsors weekly group 'scrambles' (4-6 mile paddles) on the Grasse and/or Little Rivers and duathlons, a 1.25 mile run, 1.25 mile paddle and finishing with another 1.25 mile run. Duathlons are held at the Little River boat launch next to the Park Street bridge (CR 27) in Canton. SLVP is also host to five races between April and September.
Members vary in their abilities from novice recreational paddlers to pro racers. They paddle a variety of watercraft including solo and tandem canoes and kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.
We encourage membership in our organization for a variety of reasons. Memberships and donations are used to cover basic expenses such as our PO Box, website, mailings, sports shows, buoys, race numbers, and to support other paddling events and organizations. Memberships are available for individuals, families and businesses and provide a $5 discount at registration for SLVP races.
