Marc Gillespie (L) receives
2008 Rip Friot Award for Service to Paddlesport from SLVP , presenting the award is Chuck Bolesh at Canton Canoe Weekend 2009.
In 1996, St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers (SLVP) began an award to recognize those who go beyond the call of duty and continually contribute to the promotion of paddlesport. The first recipient, Howard “Rip” Friot dedicated many years to promoting canoe races on the Oswegatchie River and was instrumental in the formation of SLVP.
St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers names Marc Gillespie of Rochester the “Rip Friot Award” winner for 2008 and presented the award to him during the festivities at Canton Canoe Weekend.. Marc is a perfect choice for a recipient of an award that recognizes promoting paddlesports on many levels. Marc is a great champion for and promoter of SLVP races, loved by the media and spectators alike. His “Forge Racing” team in Rochester is getting many new paddlers of all ages into the sport. Canton Canoe Weekend announces new Rushton Relay reduced fee structure for 2010
Rochester Race Information
rochesteropenwaterchallenge.com
We have 2 races on tap a 10 mile openwater event and a 3 1/2 mile inner bay race.
The open water race while difficult would be perfect for an outrigger, war canoe, and GOOD C-4 team. You could race both races or just one. it will be fun and challenging.
So consider coming up. It's all about making our sport grow, not what kind of boat you race.
It is all good.
Cheers Dan
