Wednesday Scrambles & Duathlons, Thursday Waterways Exploration
In addition to sponsored races, St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers hosts a variety of other paddling events including race trainings, time trials, paddling safety trainings and exploring the St. Lawrence Valley waterways.
Wednesday Scrambles (Time Trials)
from ice-out to ice-in on Wednesday evenings, paddlers gather for a four to six mile group paddle. All are welcome to join in. Boats, paddles and life jackets may be available to borrow with prior notice. Paddlers meet for early and late season paddles on the Little River at the Park Street (CR 27) boat launch in Canton, NY. In the summer, Scrambles move to the Grasse River at the DEC boat launch on Route 68, about three miles west of Canton. Meeting times vary from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the season based on daylight. Check the SLVP Facebook page for meeting times and location. Scrambles are often followed by a picnic or group dinner at a local restaurant.

Thursday Waterway Explorations

On Thursday evenings during the late spring, summer and early fall SLVP hosts group tours to explore a variety of nearby paddling locations on the Oswegatchie, Grasse, and Raquette Rivers as well as local lakes and reservoirs. Our launch sites vary each week, but are within a relatively short drive from the Canton-Potsdam area. Meetup times also vary in consideration of drive time and daylight. Check our Facebook page for the latest information.

The Thursday evening paddles are not races or time trials, but rather an opportunity to explore some different waterways and improve paddling skills in the company of other paddlers. Canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards or other paddle craft are welcome to join in. No need to sign up, just show up.
We plan to paddle rain or shine, but we will cancel for severe weather (e.g. high winds, torrential rain, lightning!). Launch times will vary due to day length.

If you would like to join in the fun send an email to SLVP to be added to the Thursday paddle announcements and other exploration trips. If you have ideas of local waterways to explore please send them along!
