They paddled the 'World Famous' Little Brown Pig from the Paul Smiths canoe livery.

 

 

22 College Students participated in the College Challenge Relay, all were eligible in the drawing for four bent shaft paddles provided by St. Lawrence University. The winners from the random raffle were-

AWARDED FOR VOLUNTEER EFFORTS

In 2000, the Canton Canoe Weekend community lost a long time friend and volunteer worker, Steve Huczel. For over 10 years Steve had worked in every aspect of the weekend’s races doing all that was asked of him and much more without being asked. Steve was the ideal volunteer, quiet, helpful, tireless and there.

In 2001, the organizing committee instituted the "Steve Huczel Award" recognizing outstanding effort by a volunteer(s). The award recognizes outstanding efforts for a number of years. Past recipients are:

The Canton Canoe Weekend committee is proud to recognize Bob and Sue Northrop as the 2010 recipients of this award. Bob and Sue are outdoors people whose love for nature, an outdoor lifestyle and sharing that is evident to all who know them. They are educators, and retired swim coaches from St. Lawrence University.
They have for years served in the thankless CCW positions, monitoring the race buoys on Little River during the C-1 & C-2 races. They do whatever is needed including being a safety boat during the Rushton Relays.
They and volunteers like them are what makes Canton Canoe Weekend and the Rushton Memorial Races the well respected event that it is. Like Steve Huczel, they are the ideal volunteers.
